If you are visiting Philippines and want to have a good time - depending, of course, on your tastes, this article will arm you with sufficient knowledge on how and where to find your heart's delight. Balibago is home to Field Avenue, a go-go bar strip often referred to as the tourist area (Bar Hopping Map). This area seems to be unaffected by the closing of Clark Air Base and remains an R&R (rest and recreation) style of vacation retreat for unaccompanied men who enjoy an exciting and enchanting nightlife! You have it all here: alcohol - yes! sexy, young women - yes! There are over 100 bars full of attractive and readily available women eager to show you a good time. Balibago is a nonstop, drunken revel seven days a week, everyday of the year. Recreational sex is the sport of choice. You can enjoy full privileges with one or more attractive young females regardless of your age, weight, physical appearance, interpersonal skills, wealth or social class. Go-go bars start to open at noon and a few keep the music pumping until 5:00 AM. Some small hostess bars are open 24 hours. Prices in Balibago are extremely low, which means you can carouse in full throttle without wiping out your life savings. English is widely spoken. You don't really have to learn a single word of the tagalog though the local folks will love you if you can speak a few words in their own vernacular. Top go-go bars in Balibago include Champagne Group (Champagne, Lancelot, Brown Sugar, Camelot), Roadhouse, Insomnia and Flamingo. Buying a drink for a girl you find attractive is a good way to break the ice. You don't want to be called Cheap Charlie - for that is what a man who doesn't buy drinks for any of the girls while he's bar hopping is called. Generally, eight drinks will buyout a dancer or waitress from her shift and she will leave the bar with you. The politically correct term for this is early work release or simply EWR. Some girls will go out to eat with you, some will go bar hopping, some will spend the night, some will fly home with you. Check it out with your friend and consult your luck. If you're a big spender and want to see a lot of smiling faces and make some new friends, each bar has a bell you can ring to buy drinks for all the dancers and other staff. Depending on the number of employees, friends and relatives of the mamasan, this can end up costing you over $100. As you explore the tourist area, you might make a turn down A. Santos Street. Here you will find old-style bars of the non-go-go variety. This is called Blow Row. These rundown, small bars each have a dozen girls at the most. They are open around the clock and the girls will try to get you to go into one of the rooms in the back! In addition to having dozens of go-go bars, Balibago has many restaurants - thankfully, since man cannot live on alcohol and sex alone. On the western edge of Field Avenue near the money changers is the 24-hour Margarita Station, with plenty of smiling waitresses. At the corner of Field Avenue and A. Santos Street is Kokomo's. Check out Krung Thai Restaurant located across from DMZ bar. At Field Avenue and A. Santos Street is Ristorante Verona located atop Lancelot Bar. Above Roadhouse and Private Dancer is Salvatore's which serves pizza, pasta and imported New Zealand mussels. The dining room provides a quick escape from the noise and hustle of Field Avenue. A casual restaurant that's open late, Chic'n Ribs serves excellent pork ribs. It's located on lower Field Avenue between Blue Nile and MacArthur Highway. American-style submarine sandwiches are available on Field Avenue at Sub Delicious. On MacArthur Highway there's Fortune Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant for Chinese food, and Ribeye Restaurant for steak and lobster tail. Out near the America Hotel you'll find the Edelweiss Bar & Restaurant. Another spot to try is RUMPA - good food and inexpensive. Though Angeles City doesn't have a beach, it has lots of daytime activities other than bar hopping at the daytime bars. These include shopping at the SM Mall, exploring Pinatubo and the lahar fields in Porac, motorcycle riding, shopping at the markets for local crafts at bargain prices, and taking a guided tour. For nightlife coupled with beach resort activities, head out to Puerto Galera. Other popular excursions are LaUnion and Baguio. If you're in Metro Manila and don't want to fight the traffic out to Angeles City, there are quite a few bars at the EDSA Complex in Pasay City and on P. Burgos Street in Makati. Generally, these bars are more upscale and have more dancers. Prices are higher than in Angeles. For more information, go to the AngelesCity.com Manila page. |
